Srixon ZX5 St. 6-irons
SRIXON ZX5 IRONS
In recent times Srixon have become a major player in the forged iron world, with each new release being extremely well received by the golfing public. Shane Lowry won the 2018 Open Championship at Royal Portrush using a set of Srixon Z785 irons and further thrust this superb Japanese brand into the public eye.
The Srixon ZX5 and ZX7 irons are their latest forged iron releases and look set to build upon the success of the previous models. The Srixon ZX5 is the larger headed of the two irons and is aimed at golfers up from scratch up to a mid-handicap. The ZX5 is billed as being the ultimate in user-friendly player’s iron, providing forgiveness where it is needed in the longer irons, and excellent control in the scoring clubs.
The Srixon ZX5 is undoubtedly one of the finest looking sets of irons you ever lay eyes on and look superb when resting in your bag and when placed behind the ball. The topline is relatively thick for a club of this type and should instill more confidence in those off a slightly higher handicap. There is a slight amount of offset which will promote more of a draw bias to shots and the sole is slightly wider than on previous models. The sole is a new Tour VT design and has a clear ridge running down the middle. This works wonders at preventing the club from digging in on slightly heavy shots and offers superb overall levels of turf interaction.
The Srixon ZX5 benefits from their new Mainframe technology which is a milled pattern behind the face of each iron, increasing the core of the face and providing explosive yet controlled distance. The Srixon ZX5 irons have progressive grooves, with the grooves on the shorter irons being narrower, sharper and deeper than on the long irons for added control.
The head of the ZX5 iron is a multi-piece construction and features a tungsten weight in the 3-iron to 7-iron, increase the stability and M.O.I of those irons. The Forged SUP10 face provide excellent ball speeds and the club has a lovely soft feel due to the main head body being constructed with soft, forged 1020 carbon steel.
If you have a mid-handicap or below and you are look for a set of players irons that looks great but doesn’t compromise on performance then the Srixon ZX5 would be a superb choice. Destined to become a massive success Srixon have hit the jackpot with these fabulous clubs.
